Helpful tips for life in the USA
Many things are considered rude in the United States like : staring, asking personal questions or making fun of a person's disability.
Smoking too has become very unpopular in the United States. Restaurants now have special places for smokers. Even public and private buildings may very soon ban smoking except in certain areas. Some people refuse the idea of allowing their guests to smoke inside their homes. So, to be on the safe side, ask for permission before you smoke.
Polite expressions like: "please" and "thank you" are very important in the United States. Don't hesitate in saying "please", "thank you" "excuse me" all the time. Americans say them to express appreciations, apologize if they invade somebody's personal space and in many other situations, and they expect others to do tge same. They also say "pardon me" or "excuse me" if they sneeze or cough or do not understand something someone has said.
Social conversatiobs in the United States do not tackle serious issues, especially if you meet the person for the first time. People in social gatherings ask brief questions and expect brief answers. Americans are not at ease if a person talks for any length of time in a social situation.
