It is hitting me hard, but less hard than 2009.

I haven't noticed any kind of downturn in the last year or two. If anything, work levels and prices are going up. Maybe I've just been lucky.

Though work has been fluctuating throughout the year more than usual...

With Mary May 26, 2010

Same here - if anything I'm better off now than ever and have done much better so far this year than in the corresponding period last year. I've even raised my rates with a few new clients with no resistance at all.

well, I usually have a sort of long-term booking - in January I have my wotk planned till March for example. Last year, in June this changed, I got more or less the same amount of work, but non planning in advance, every translation had a short deadline, and this trend has been going on since then.

Actually, it did not affect me a lot from the point of view of workload, but obivously it has become a bit uncertain.

I was hit last year (in the U.S.) May 26, 2010

This year I'm getting back the old momentum.

Not harder May 26, 2010

... but differently: direct customers (those biennial conferences come in handy) have filled the gap when agencies had little in store for me - a different way of working. Trouble is, when they cancel or postpone a job, they do not give me another one immediately to fill in free time. They pay more though - somehow the "waiting time" is paid for.

It's been different May 26, 2010

Last year, since we saw it coming, I accepted every possible job. Which meant I had some that did not go well. This year, I've done a better job of keeping things within a workable schedule, so I have been happier with my work and my work schedule. I have probably earned a bit less, but I'm happier with what I'm doing.

My prediction was that work would increase (certainly in marketing) as companies needed to stay competitive and it seems I was right.

If I recall correctly, Jared's stats on the number of jobs posted on Proz have been constantly going up (although that includes the kind of jobs that some of us laugh at).

Not at all May 26, 2010

Been as busy as I can handle since 2006, with the exception of one quiet month in 2009. However, I think I would have been able to push my rates up quicker if it were not for the economic crisis.
