Tokyo (Reuters) – Toyota announced on Monday that it would temporarily reduce its production in France, in response to the impact which the recall of millions of vehicles worldwide has had on sales. The Japanese firm, which is the world’s leading car manufacturer, simultaneously confirmed its intention to extend production cutbacks in both of its factories in the United Kingdom.
Toyota has recalled a total of 8.5 million cars in recent months due to problems involving accelerator pedals, floor mats and the braking system in its hybrid models
Toyota has also announced that its French factory in Onnaing which produces the Yaris, will stop production for several days at the beginning of March and the end of April. The French plant has a production capacity of about 270,000 vehicles per year.
Toyota has previously taken measures to reduce production in the United States, where its sales have markedly decreased in recent weeks.
