Translation - English I turned down the volume on the television set before turning it on, and it played the image without sound like I wanted, so she didn’t notice despite the room growing instantly brighter. Fred MacMurray was on the screen with subtitles, an old, late-night film. I flipped through the other channels and went back to MacMurray in black and white, to his dimwitted face. And that was when I couldn’t help but stop to think, although no one ever thinks much, let alone about the order in which those thoughts will later be told or written: “What am I doing here?” I thought. “I’m in a house I don’t know in the bedroom of someone I’ve never seen. All I know is his first name, which his wife naturally and insufferably mentioned several times throughout the evening. This is her room also, and that’s why I’m here, keeping an eye on her illness after having taken off some of her clothes and touched her. I do know her, but not very well, and we met just two weeks ago. This is only the third time I’ve ever seen her. Her husband called a couple of hours ago, when I was already in his house having dinner. He called to tell her that he had arrived safely in London, that he had dined exquisitely at Bombay Brasserie, that he was getting ready to get into his hotel room bed, and that he had to work the next morning because he’s on a short business trip.” And his wife, Marta, didn’t tell him that I was there, here, having dinner. That made me almost certain that it was a date, even though the boy was still awake at the time. Her husband had surely asked about the boy. She answered by saying that he was about to go to bed. The husband had probably said, “Put him on so I can tell him good night,” because Marta said, “I’d better not; he’s wide awake, and if he talks to you he’ll get even more restless, and then it’ll be impossible to get him to sleep.” That was all absurd from my point of view because the boy, almost two according to his mother, was speaking at a very rudimentary, hardly intelligible level, and Marta had to decode and translate it. Mothers are the world’s first decoders and translators; they interpret and then give spoken form to what isn’t even language: gestures, frantic movements, and the different meanings of crying when it is inarticulate and doesn’t form words, or it excludes or hinders them. Perhaps the father asked for him to be put on the phone because he also understood the boy, who, to make it more difficult, would always talk with a pacifier in his mouth. One time while Marta was away for a few minutes in the kitchen, he and I were left alone in the living room, which also served as a dining room. I was sitting at the table with a napkin on my lap, and he was on the sofa holding a little rabbit. We were both watching television, him directly, me sidelong, and I told him, “I don’t understand you with the pacifier.”

Source text - Spanish El gusano Conficker y el Trojan.Crack.I continúan causando estragos en España
09 junio 2011
Crack.I.

June 9, 2011
It may be three years since its creation, but the computer worm Conficker is still alive and kicking in Spain. It represents 14.8% of all infection attempts recorded in the last six months.
Conficker began to spread through networks with out-of-date security in 2008, and at the height of its destruction it infected over 11 million computers. Its survival is “the result of a very aggressive propagation capacity,” according to the experts, to which they add “failure of users to implement basic security measures and a haphazard approach to mobile device management.”
Pirated software is also an important source of infections. In May of 2011 the spotlight was on the Trojan.Crack.I. This malicious application is a keygen, a binary file designed to block the commercial protection of software products, by generating false registration keys, while collecting confidential information from users’ computers.
The growth of both Conficker and Trojan.Crack.I is directly related to users’ insecure use of USB memory sticks, MP3 players and other removable devices,” explains Catalin Cosoi, head of BitDefender Online Threats Lab.
Therefore, no system is safe, and it is crucial to install all security patches launched by software companies to avoid scares. A computer with out-of-date software is an easy target and the perfect platform to spread malware to other PCs.
In order to help users, at the beginning of the year BitDefender launched USB Immunizer, a free tool that protects against malware that is propagated through removable devices. It is available for download here: http://labs.bitdefender.com/?page_id=108.

ABC Health - November 15, 2011
Heart failure is a common, debilitating, and deadly condition. The most common cause of heart failure in the developed world is coronary heart disease, a blockage of the blood vessels leading to the heart which results in the death of heart tissue. This causes the heart to pump less blood, leading to a lower left ventriclar ejection fraction (LVEF). The paper’s authors point out that available treatments do not address the fundamental problem of the loss of heart tissue.
The adult heart contains cardiac stem cells which have the ability to renew and clone themselves. In addition, as explained by the authors of the study published in The Lancet, Roberto Bolli of the University of Louisville (USA), and Piero Anversa, Brigham and Women's Hospital of Harvard University (USA), these cells are multipotent, that is, they can give rise to the three major cardiac lineages (cardiomyocytes, smooth muscle cells, and endothelial cells).
In animal tests the cardiac stem cells have proven their ability to improve heart failure, but so far they have not been tested in humans. In this study, the authors have conducted a Phase 1 trial in patients with heart failure after a heart attack in order to assess the safety and feasibility of intracoronary stem cell infusion and therefore test the hypothesis that this intervention could improve the heart’s contractility and the general clinical condition of patients.
The trial, called Scipio, was performed on 23 patients with severe heart failure who had undergone coronary-artery bypass graft surgery. 16 in all received cardiac stem cells, while the other seven (the control group) received standard treatment. Patients were injected with an infusion of 1 million stem cells for a mean period of 4 months after heart surgery.
The results showed 14 patients with an increase in their ejection fraction from 30.3% before infusion to 38.5% four months afterward. In the control group there were no changes.
Positive Results
The researchers highlight that the positive effects of cardiac stem cells infusion were even more pronounced after one year in eight treated patients. Their left ventricle ejection fraction rose 12.3 percentage points (from 30.2% before the infusion to 42.5% after a year). In the seven treated patients who underwent an MRI, the amount of dead tissue (infarction) decreased by 24% after 4 months and 30% after a year.
The authors stress that this is the first study to demonstrate that cardiac stem cell administration is effective and introduces a potential new treatment for heart failure: "The results provide a firm foundation for designing future studies on the use of cardiac stem cells as treatment for patients with severe heart failure secondary to ischemic cardiomyopathy with a poor prognosis."

Actualmente prepara otro filme, titulado The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband.
Translation - English Nasty Neighbours
The Peaches are a middle-class married couple whose peaceful daily routine gets shaken up by the arrival of some new neighbours, the rude, loud, and aggressive Chapmans, who they butt heads with repeatedly. But are the Chapmans as bad as they seem to be? Could it be that the Peaches are simply unloading their own frustrations onto their new neighbours? Enthusiastically received by British critics, Nasty Neighbours is a brilliant black comedy that marks the cinematic debut of television director and playwright Debbie Isitt. The film is based on one of Isitt’s own plays which, according to Guinness, is the most performed piece on a single night, and its success on stage is what propelled her to bring it to the screen. However, Nasty Neighbours is far from a simple adaptation. It’s free of theatrics yet has flair of its own in which the filmmaker experiments with use of split-screen and colour.
Debbie Isitt
Born in England, Debbie Isitt has directed the short film Wasps, for the British Film Institute, and a couple of televised programmes, Johnny Watkins Walks on Water and Dance for a Stranger. In 1995, she successfully debuted her play Nasty Neighbours, and its adaptation has now been released to cinemas. She is currently working on another film, titled The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband.

Translation - English Bankia opens and closes its first day on the trading floor at the same price
Negocios.com, 20 July 2011
Bankia shares managed to weather the market’s “perfect storm” by closing their first trading session with shares at €3.75, matching their starting price after dropping over 6% in the first hours of trading.
The bank securities of the conglomerate of seven savings banks led by Caja Madrid and Bancaja hit their lowest price at €3.51 and levelled out at their highest point of the day.
Bankia shares stood out among the performance of other banking stocks, which shot up amid investors’ hopes of an agreement in the Eurogroup meeting that could eventually lead to Greece’s second bailout.
Bankia stocks did not join the celebration on the Ibex, which scored its second largest gain of the year ( 3.06%), spurred on by the spectacular surge of Santander ( 5.05%) and BBVA ( 4.36%), reflecting expectations that the European Summit would take measures to help lower Spain’s risk premium.
After the bank was welcomed into the Madrid Stock Exchange, Bankia president Rodrigo Rato acknowledged in his speech that the markets are going through severe turbulence which he called a “perfect storm.”
Efficiency gains, cost reductions, and elimination of redundant offices, along with the management of its board of directors and employees, are some of the cards that Rato plans to play in hopes of creating shareholder value.
GOOD OR BAD NEWS
José Luis Martínez, Chief Strategist for Citi Spain, believes that drawing even in its debut after falling 6% “is good news” in the current scenario of sharp market volatility and misgivings over of newly-issued banking stocks.
By contrast, Daniel Pingarrón, an analyst at IG Markets, believes that “the flotation of Bankia is pretty bad” at a time in which Ibex is experiencing a significant gain thanks to improved debt indicators, which serve to calm investors’ fears of default.
For Pingarrón, this debut is “a bad sign for Bankia” that does not leave him with much optimism about stock performance in the coming days. Nevertheless, he qualifies that the first trading day is usually “strange.”
Victoria Torre, of Selfbank, stresses that the banking stock prices that have risen sharply today as the result of a greater optimism about the resolution of the Greek problem come from a significant blow to their value. In these circumstances, the investors prefer to choose institutions like Santander, which retains upside potential of 30% and is better diversified internationally, affirms Torre.
