Source text - Spanish Desde que comenzara la guerra civil en Siria unos cuatro millones de sirios han tenido que abandonar el país huyendo de la violencia. Más de la mitad de ellos son niños. Nacido en Siria narra el periplo de esos refugiados desde el punto de vista de los niños que viven este calvario: los abusos de las mafias, las inclemencias del mar, la incertidumbre sobre un futuro al que la gran mayoría se enfrenta apenas con lo puesto, y descubriremos que llegar a su destino es sólo el comienzo de una nueva odisea: la de la integración en una tierra nueva y, en muchos casos, hostil. El mayor éxodo de refugiados desde la Segunda Guerra Mundial visto a un metro y medio de altura a través de siete historias de guerra, sufrimiento y desesperación... pero también de superación, inocencia, valor y esperanza, que nos permitirán entender qué significa haber nacido en Siria.
Translation - English Since the beginning of the civil war in Syria, around four million Syrians have had to abandon their country, fleeing violence. Over half of them are children. Born in Syria narrates the journey of these refugees from the point of view of the children who live this constant torment: the abuse of the mafias, the harshness of the sea, the uncertainty of the future with barely the shirt on their backs, and the discovery of arriving to their destination only to start a new odyssey: integration into a new land that, for many, is hostile. VERÓNICA
En definitiva, nuestro planeta, la naturaleza, es la única herencia que podemos dejar a nuestros descendientes. Y, si dañamos el medio ambiente, estamos condenando a nuestros hijos a la ruina.
La gente aplaude a Verónica. Frank se acerca a ella y la saluda.
FRANK
Buen discurso.
VERÓNICA
Qué sorpresa, un torero por aquí. Esto está lleno de gente poco amiga de los matadores de animales. ¿Cómo es que te arriesgas a pasarte por aquí?

FRANK
Do you have any idea how a mother of fighting bulls births her calf? Then you can’t understand the fight. It’s like reading the final chapter of a book and having to imagine the rest.

Source text - Spanish La asociación de familiares de personas con Alzhéimer y otras demencias nació en el año 1996 con el único objetivo de atender y dar calidad de vida a las personas afectadas con la enfermedad de Alzhéimer y otras demencias y a sus familiares cuidadores.
El centro es un centro vivo, un centro muy bonito estéticamente, funcionalmente muy bonito, pero realmente, lo que conlleva realmente que el centro funcione tan bien son los profesionales que tenemos dentro. Son vocacionales totalmente, es cierto que trabajan muchísimo sabiendo que la recompensa es solamente que las reconozcan, que las llamen por su nombre, o que a base de “niña, niña” vuelvan a hablar, o vuelvan a andar, o vuelvan a comer solos, pero realmente la enfermedad tiene su proceso, va avanzando, y el deterioro es incurable, e imparable.
Para mí trabajar en AFA ha sido una forma diferente de sentir un poco la vida. Con el paso del tiempo, te hace ver la vida de otra manera, te hace sentir incluso las cosas de otra manera, y te hace tener una perspectiva tanto del tiempo como de lo que tú haces en la vida totalmente diferente a como yo lo vivía antes.
Esta enfermedad es muy cara para las familias. Hay un estudio que afirma que puede costar entre 6000 y 30000 € al año dependiendo del estadio en el que se encuentre. Por lo tanto, las asociaciones necesitamos respuesta por parte de las fundaciones y de las administraciones. Si es cierto que con la crisis económica, nos hemos visto en recortes muy importantes. No obstante, la responsabilidad social corporativa que tienen hoy las empresas, y gracias a empresas con Smurfit Kappa podemos sacar adelante el día a día de lo que es esta asociación.
Smurfit Kappa se puso en contacto con nosotros, abriéndonos una puerta importante, además de hacer un gesto como fue organizar una cena solidaria, revirtiendo una ayuda económica que la vamos a invertir en un acceso que tenemos que tener de salida de emergencias para las sillas de rueda que además es obligatorio y ahí vamos a invertir.
Cuando nosotros queremos mirar cuál va a ser nuestro futuro, somos optimistas, en el sentido en el que si hemos superado todo este periodo de crisis, tenemos la esperanza de que podamos seguir sobreviviendo mientras que no exista esa vacuna mágica o esa mediación especial que cure la enfermedad.
Por tanto lo que nosotros queremos hacer es animar a empresas como Smurfit Kappa, que ha tenido esa responsabilidad corporativa con nuestra asociación para poder seguir adelante.

For me, working at AFA has changed my perspective on life a little. As time goes by, it makes you see life in a different light. You experience even the little things differently. And it gives you a new perspective on time and what you do with your life, one completely different from how I lived before.
This illness is very expensive for the families. Because of this, the associations need help from foundations and administrations. Yes, it's true that in the economic crisis we've found ourselves with significant budget cuts. Nevertheless, thanks to the corporate social responsibility that companies take on today, companies like Smurfit Kappa, we can continue on with the day to day running of this association.
Smurfit Kappa contacted us, opening an important door for us. As a gesture, they even organized a gala dinner, raising funds that we're going to invest in a much needed wheel-chair accessible emergency exit. That's what we're investing in.
When we look to the future, we're optimistic given that we've survived this period of crisis, and we have hope that we can continue on surviving without the existence of a magical vaccine or a special medicine that will cure the disease.
Therefore, what we want to do is encourage these companies like Smurfit Kappa that have taken on this corporate responsibility with our association that allows us to continue moving forward.

I moved back to Southern Spain as soon as I graduated and have never once regretted that choice!
ESL teaching was my foot in the door to working in Spain and I was thrilled to start working with young startups as an SEO copywriter, editor, translator, actress, or whatever they needed me to be. I quickly became addicted to the fast-paced audiovisual world and settled into a film and video specialty with exhilarating projects ranging from writing and acting in product pitch videos to translating screenplays and documentary subtitles to returning to my teaching roots with the creation of my own educational video content.
