Hi everyone,

Please excuse me if this is a silly question. Those of you who have/have had 'qualified translator' memberships at the ITI, what have you experiences been specifically regarding the directory listing? Have you been able to strike up new collaborations with clients/agencies? And for any project managers, have you used the directory to recruit translators?

Hi everyone,

Please excuse me if this is a silly question. Those of you who have/have had 'qualified translator' memberships at the ITI, what have you experiences been specifically regarding the directory listing? Have you been able to strike up new collaborations with clients/agencies? And for any project managers, have you used the directory to recruit translators?

I have been extensively updating my ProZ profile and CV since graduating from university. I'm also very close to submitting an ITI application. But money is tight for me at the moment because of the uni fees. I'd be looking at paying over £500 to become a member (membership fee, QSA assessment fee and a processing fee). I have naturally researched the membership and found opinions to be quite mixed, albeit mostly positive. Some say the membership fee paid for itself as it enabled them to find new clients... but I've also read very negative comments.

I know there are other benefits aside from the directory and I also know the effort you put into things, like networking and marketing, will impact upon the fruits you yield. Not to mention other variables like language pairs and specialisations. It's not an easy question; everyone will have different experiences. Nevertheless, I would be very interested to know people's opinions. Because, for now at least, I need to choose between the ITI and ProZ Professional membership.

The advice you've given me on these forums over the years has been invaluable to me. I sincerely thank all of you.

Benefits of joining ITI May 31, 2021

I just recently became an associate member of the ITI (AITI) and am very glad I joined:

Members post jobs they are offered by their clients but cannot take on themselves for some reason. They then refer interested colleagues to their clients. I landed a new client this way.

The groups within ITI are a great way to network, and ITI's CPD offerings are also great.

Have you considered starting out with an Affiliate (about $270) or Associate membership (about $300) plus the Proz membership? Best of both worlds.:)

Application submitted! Jun 1, 2021

Hi Heike,

Thanks for your reply. That sounds very promising.

I have just submitted my application, so hopefully I will see you there! Do you know if many agencies are part of the institution? One of the benefits listed was the opportunity to network with 'reputable' agencies. Thanks, Adam.
