Hi
Can anyone provide some information about the NAATI certification of Australia. I would like to know how helpful is this certificate? How is the language assessment done? Can we use machine translation in the test? Do I need to have any specialization? What is the pattern of the test and are mock tests available online?

Your advise will be of great help to me.
Thanks,

My experiences since becoming certified 2x years ago:

Instant acceptance and verification of credentials > acknowledgement of translation capability > access to high value jobs requiring certified & skilled translators > doubled earning capacity compared to pre-certification.

It depends Nov 19, 2019

Manjeet, it really depends - customers outside Australia do not care about this certificate, however if you want to get some translation jobs from Australia (mostly, public sector), then it might be a good idea to get it.

I’ve found that many of the major agencies look out for certified translators as a quality standard. NAATI is the only body that provides certification for my language pair, and this has given me a huge international advantage.

Is Specialization required Nov 20, 2019

The information provided by you was of some help.
Do you need to have a specialized field to get assessed by NAATI? I usually do general translation. How helpful are the Diploma courses for translation available in Australia? Do they prepare for the NAATI test?

Specialisation not required Nov 20, 2019

You don’t need to be specialised to get certified.

I can’t answer regarding the diploma courses because I became accredited (certified) prior to these being a requirement.

I think requiring courses to be completed for certification was an effort to try reduce the 90% failure rate.

No need to have a specialized field. The test is also general translation.
I've never studied any Diploma courses, I just took the test directly, but the requirement for sitting the NAATI test might have changed. You should read the NAATI official website thoroughly.
