English term

to trash away on

English Art/Literary Music
Related to guitar playing:

"...while Mr. Malakian is often seen thrashing away on his cherished cherry red SG."

I was thinking it might mean "improvising", but I'm not sure about it.

Thanks in advance

Done. Thanks for noticing, Mikhail.

Maybe someone should correct the gloss entry as well?
Manuel Leite (asker) Dec 7, 2005:
Yes, you are right, Kevin. It's "thrash". I appologize for the mistake.

to play with vigor and enthusiasm

Not "trash," but "thrash." It implies playing loudly, perhaps with exaggerated movements, and not very skillfully.

Yes, Pete was one guitarist who could "thrash" very skillfully.
agree Cilian O'Tuama : but agree with PAS re 'skill' (or lack thereof)

Thank you. You're right, thrashing and skill are not necessarily mutually exclusive.
