English term

rephrase please

English Science Science (general) scientific writing
Table 2 summarizes the values of the stress # in a plate with two collinear and two parallel cracks.

I suspect that this sentence is incorrect, because what it is supposed to mean is that the tabulated results have been calculated for two cases: (i) a plate with collinear cracks and (ii) the same plate with parallel cracks.

Dear native speakers, please help me to rephrase (if necessary) this sentence so that it would be clear that the plate had two cracks rather than four

two colinear or two parallel cracks

simply replace the and with or

should read collinear, of course

agree Jörgen Slet : I also wonder whether "the" should be there before "stress"

If I understand you correctly.

Sorry, upon rereading, I believe it should rather say something like:

... in a plate with two collinear cracks, and in the same plate with two parallel cracks.

once and once again

only a suggestion:
Table 2 summarizes the values of the stress # in a plate once with two collinear and once again with two parallel cracks.

Table 2 summarizes the values of the stress # in a plate with two cracks once in collinear state and once again in parallel state.
State can be replaced by other word in accordance with the text.

two collinear (column A) or two parallel (column B) cracks

In case your text and table format allow, I believe this would be the clearest way to put it.

rephrased sentence below

Table 2 summarizes the values for stress # in a plate for two different cases. Column-x shows the values for two collinear cracks, while column-y shows the values for two parallel cracks.

agree fareedeh ghassemi (X) : Hi, but too long for a title that needs to be short as well as comprehensive as much as possible.
