呵呵~看来术语库靠不住。谢谢!:) 我的翻译还可以改进一下吗?请赐教。
Last Hermit May 16, 2006:
这里的“permanent market”不是“白板笔”,而是油性笔,可写在金属、陶瓷等硬物上,广东人称其为“箱头笔”,因多用于在包装箱上写字。白板笔还好擦,这箱头笔就不好弄了。

the mixture needs to be applied to the appliances or kitchen countertops, and then need to be scrubbed energetically. Sorry about the mess. I'll be more careful in the future. :-)
Clark An (asker) May 16, 2006:
*^_^*That's why Am dazzling about it:)
wherestip May 16, 2006:
No, You're translation is correct. Sorry about the flip-flopping. It means this mixture needs to be applied, and scubbed energetically
wherestip May 16, 2006:
Wait a minute, Clark. Now that you provided more context, I think my original interpretation was correct. It goes to show how important context is. :-)
Clark An (asker) May 16, 2006:
My translation.
Clark An (asker) May 16, 2006:
Context If your children have decided to use the bedroom walls to create their latest crayon masterpieces, you'll get excellent results by dipping a damp rag into baking soda and then using that mixture to scrub it off. It won't be easy, but you can do it--assuming you're willing to work at it--and it's cheaper than repainting the room.
Along those same lines, if your kids should use appliances or kitchen countertops as canvases for artwork instead of their bedroom walls, and their medium of choice is permanent marker, you'll find that dipping a paper towel in rubbing alcohol will take it off. Like the walls, this mixture needs to be combined with a liberal dose of elbow grease.

Thank you! Just for this sentence without ANY context, all of you are right,I must say.Thank you all very much!:)BTW,I think it's my problem that I didn't give you enough information to help understanding.
chica nueva May 16, 2006:
The English original is a little hard to follow (grammar/logic problem), do you have any more context? sentence before/after?
Clark An (asker) May 15, 2006:
And dose means一份差事
Clark An (asker) May 15, 2006:
大(剂)量的! Just realized that!:)

这里的“dose”不宜译作“剂量”,尽管可能由“剂量”衍生而来

作量词,谓量大。
  整句话意思:就跟墙一样,这团东西应该使劲地搅和。其中“liberal”谓“大方”、“不吝啬”、“大量”。是说你不要绣花似地搅,也不应该打自家儿子那样声大力小,或舍不得出力。

Here in Texas, art is the guy who lives on the corner and literature what the NRA leaves in your mailbox

The purpose here is to clobber conservatives in as many avenues of creative expression possible, keeping in mind that humor, a little fun and a good wallop are the prerequisites in getting people to listen, and more importantly, to vote. Dean receives liberal dose of support
Thousands welcome presidential hopeful at Westlake rally

By NEIL MODIE
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER
Seattle, one of America's most liberal cities, gave Howard Dean, the Democratic Party's most outspokenly liberal major candidate for president, the biggest, loudest reception of his surging campaign last night.
As thousands packed the area around Westlake Park the former Vermont governor rewarded them with his red-meat stump speech, vowing to "send this president back to Crawford, Texas," for good, and promising, "If you make me the nominee of this party, I'll make you proud to be a Democrat again."

...exactly as you said.

Here elbow grease refers to a lubricant

Elbow Grease could also mean the opposite: a degreaser

From your context it's most likely some kind of degreaser used to prep a surface, such as a wall, perhaps before painting.

Elbow Grease All Purpose Degreaser

I just reread the sentence and agree with Lesley that here the sentence means 使劲猛力地将浆体掺合

Once again, without context it's not easy to see where a sentence or phrase fits in. It needs some imagination of the circumstances to read a standalone sentence or phrase. And sometime it's totally off track

>>> I really didn't know Elbow Grease could be a degreaser.

It's a brand name for a degreaser in the link I provided, I think. It's also used a lot for a kind of lubricant that's kind of unmentionable. ;-)

liberal dose = generous amount

liberal dose = generous amount

elbow grease = a lot of physical effort eg The polish needs a certain amount of elbow grease to apply. (Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary)

-> means you should use energy to mix it.

'liberal dose of elbow grease' is figurative/idiomatic, not literal
