Diamond entering Shanghai Diamond Exchange (SDE) from overseas is exempted from value-added tax at the stage of import. Diamond traded in SDE is exempted from value-added tax and consumption tax. Diamond entering domestic market from SDE is subject to 17% value-added tax at the stage of import which is collected by the customs and is deductible upon the presentation of proper taxation documents.
