French term
état des lieux contradictoires sur photos
French to English
Law/Patents
Law: Contract(s)
rental agreement
I know that é-d-l and contradictoire have been well covered but the "sur photos" has me a little stumped for a concise translation.
This is a quotation/agreement for rental. I think the client would be arriving from far away so would not be available in person for an é-d-l done in advance as described here (the é-d-l is to be agreed a few days before the rental begins).
« Caution de xx% à nous faire parvenir avec état des lieux contradictoires sur photos pour le xx/xx/2007 »

joint schedule of condition/inventory of fixtures (established/based on) photos
contradictoire is a false friend (once again)
Types of Rental Agreement
These are very useful as they set out gaps for names, levels of rent, etc. ... A schedule of condition indicates the state of items on the inventory as well ...

: Yep. How about simply an "agreed" schedule of condition based on photos? BTW, "schedule of condition" is not used in the US (just in case the target language is US English). We Yanks might call it a pre-rental inspection report.

joint is more specific. contradictoire means it's one doc for both parties, as opposed to each party drawing up a separate doc.

: In US English "schedule of condition" is very often "condition inspection report". And 'contradictoire' just means both parties are present, and prepare a single report, which is how I understand 'joint'.

As I tried to highlight in my preamble, it's the combination of these two with "sur photos" that seemed tricky: if "contradictoire" is taken at face value as implying some sort of joint assessment, it seems at odds with an assessment carried out (by at least one party) by post, using photos. Perhaps contradictoire is just used here out of habit?
