German term

Objekt

German to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering
This must mean cost, or something like that. "Der genaue Materialbedarf ist von den Untergrundgegebenheiten (Rauigkeit, Saugfähigkeit, Temperatur) abhängig und muss deshalb auf das Objekt abgestimmt werden."

Discussion

Kieran McCann Dec 4, 2007:
surely this is just the standard term for a property or project...the materials needed depend on the particular property?
Erik Brinkhof Dec 4, 2007:
I don't see how this could be "cost, or something like that." But I can't translate this without either more context or more information about the text (from/for who, etc.) or both.

I don't think 'Objekt' here has a very different context from the standard meaning. It just refers to the thing/item in question.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks, this makes the most sense as they are talking about parts of a building."

It can be almost anything depending on the context: a bridge, a tunnel, Eiffel tower, a car park. I've always had problems with those "objects" because the word "object" seems somehow awkward in this sense

agree Translation-Pro : ...but I suggest merging your answer with Kieran's suggestion, i. e. the building(s) or property, depending on the context.

thanks! very much so!
agree Andrew D : the amount of paint needed depends on the actual situation of the project/building. Objekt is the base where the work is to take place, might be a whole building, perhaps just one wall.
