rim the vehicle

English to German Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks
Wie könnte das Verb *rim* im folgenden Kontext einer Anleitung zum Einbau einer Riemenspannvorrichtung (automatic belt tensioner) übersetzt werden.
"Installation & Inspection: As a final check, *rim the vehicle* and make certain the belt has a proper traction on all pulleys. Pay particular attention to backside or flat pulleys in the drive."
Ich kann mir einfach nicht vorstellen, was mit *rim the vehicle* gemeint sein kann. Vielleicht sollte man diesen Ausdruck bei der Übersetzung einfach weglassen.

Thanks to Heidi A very clever idea, I must say. Since the text -due to OCR, I presume- contains many strange words, your proposal "run ..." could be the looked after solution. I would expect "to run the engine", however. Nevertheless, many thanks.

I would assume it to mean "run". Maybe off idle, under RPM. Start the car and check the belt function.

if we're talking about just the chassis here, then it would make sense to walk around it to make sure that all is properly mounted - otherwise not

Thanks to Jonathan and David Going around the vehicle does not really make sense because the operation of installing a new belt tensoner is carried out from the front of the car with the bonnet/hood open. After the work is finished and checked I can't see any reason why one should walk around the vehicle in the given context.

Extremely curious to know what is the rationale behind the restriction to German NS, when they are far, far less likely ever to have met the term - or indeed to be able to think around English corners?
At any rate, I'd be inclined to agree with Jonathan.

trim the vehicle

Vielleicht fehtl da ja ein t - trim the vehicle (also so etwas wie "nochmal schauen, ob mit dem Auto alles ok ist", "letzte Hand anlegen")

Keine Ahnung, ob man "trim the vehicle" im Englischen so sagen kann, aber es könnte ja sein.

wie gesagt, war ja nur geraten. to trim muss sich ja nicht auf eine Frisur beziehen

nochmal rumgehen/anschauen/nachgucken

Sowohl aus Quelltext als auch aus meinen Wbb. ergibt sich diese Bedeutung; nach der Arbeit die Montage von allen Seiten begutachten, ob der Riemen überallt aufliegt.
