Spanish term

cause estado

Spanish to English Law/Patents Law (general)
A clause from a divorce decree (Mexico):

Una vez que cause estado la presente resolución cumplase con lo ordenado en el artículo 25 de la Ley de Divorcio en los terminos precisados en el ultimo considerando de esta sentencia.

"cause estado" in particular is giving me fits, but I could use help piecing together the whole first part of the phrase up through "cumplase".

Here is my contribution: After this (divorce) decree becomes final, let provisions under art. 25 of the Divorce Law be complied with, in accordance with the terms set forth in the last of the recitals of the aforementioned decree.

becomes final/absolute

It means that the sentence is beyond appeal, it has become final.

This judgment becomes final upon the passing of 300 days from its execution. .... Causar estado la sentencia = devenir firme= to become final. ...

Since this is a divorce case, the right term is of course "judgment", not sentence (which applies for the criminal jurisdiction).

Anyway, despite this, an option for auto que decretó que CAUSÓ ESTADO could be: the court order which declared that it (the interlocutory judgment) HAD BECOME FINAL.

5.- To be “res judicata” (known in Spanish as CAUSAR ESTADO) in the country that rendered them, or that there is no ordinary recourse against them

El tema, como es obvio, presenta múltiples aristas. Hoy hablaremos del amparo agrario. Permítanme presentarlo afirmando que las resoluciones de los Tribunales Agrarios pueden nunca CAUSAR ESTADO, es decir, jamás quedar firmes, definitivas e inatacables.

Peer comment(s):

agree Henry Hinds : Becomes FINAL, not absolute. Sentencia = judgment, penal y civil.

Yes, Henry, in the US that´s the case. In Britain "judgment" applies exclusively to the civil jurisdiction. We have already talked about this issue. Un saludo.

quiere decir: "entrar en vigor" :
Bring into force,
Be in effect,
Be effective
Take effect

I'd be happy to try again if you would add more context, but consider this wording.
Example sentence:

or: ... once the relief has gone into effect, (the respondent ) shall comply with the court's order ...
