Personal experience: LG cell phones have a 1 year collect and return policy under the insurance purchased with the phone - they sent the new phone, no postage cost to me, along with the receipt, the ship-back label (no cost to me) and a strip of tape to reseal the box to return the damaged phone to them.

As opposed to the 'collect and return' option, which suggests that the vendor/manufacturer will collect and return any goods requiring repair, 'carry-in' seems to mean that the buyer is responsible for getting any goods requiring repair to the vendor/manufacturer. This could mean sending by mail or physically taking the goods there himself (more likely if you've bought something from a local store). It would seem logical that the buyer would also have to cover the cost of getting the goods back, or will simply go and collect them himself.
