French term

engravage

French to English Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks
This is in some specifications for maintaining heavy goods vehicles: "Réparer les pneus par vulcanisation à chaud, à froid et engravage", then later in the same document: "Engraver des pneus pour améliorer l'adhérence". I understand about hot and cold cure repairs but don't know what "engravage" is, in the context of either repairing tyres or improving their grip. Any help would be much appreciated!

Note from asker:
Thanks, this is the conclusion I was coming to based on my own internet searches but tyres are not my usual area and I really wanted some reassurance. I think you can just say "grooving" too, so I'll probably use that or regrooving unless anything else turns up to convince me otherwise.

In the GDT you can find the following explanation regarding the building of tyres: " tire builder
confectionneur de pneus n. m.
.

Définition :
Builds up pneumatic tires on a form: wraps layers of rubberised fabric around form as it is turned by hand or machine; presses layers together and guides them to shape of form by means of hand roller or other hand tool; places beading on edge of fabric layers and folds fabric evenly around it; winds on cushion band, rubber side walls and tire tread; trims tire, removes it from form and places it to one side in readiness for moulding and vulcanising (curing). From googling, this term is unusual in French when associated with tires/tyres. Probably inspired from the EN...
I think that it might mean designing grooves on the tyre usable band after the tyre has been reconditioned (recapping/retreading) to improve the grip

Re Asker's note:
Oh ok, so I am mistaken. I only did a lazy search with engraving and tyres.
I find it weird to "repair" tyres by grooving them. As this engravage seems very odd in FR, the context suggests that the first occurrence might mean rechappage (retreading) and the second sculpture (grooving), although I thought that you would glue a pregrooved running tread.
Note from asker:
I also think it means something to do with grooves but didn't know if the term should be grooving, regrooving or possibly retreading but I thought the latter was slightly different (based purely on my internet searches). I don't think I should say "engraving" though as that means something else when associated with tyres, I think, e.g. laser engraving on the side of the tyre.
