déchets hors déchèteries

français vers anglais Technique / Génie Autre waste management
Is there a posh way of saying this please. The phrase recurs several times and I could do with a neat phrasing
Typical example is
.... tonnes de déchets hors déchèteries sont destinées au stockage
is it basically ''waste not taken to/received by/collected at recycling centres''
Thank you!

Christine Kirkham (asker) Dec 31, 2008:
I think I need to check but I am guessing your first notion is correct - the stuff the refuse collectors take away from our gate as opposed to the stuff we take to the recycling centre
Bourth (X) Dec 31, 2008:
Or what people collect out of ditches and during organized cleanups along forest walks, etc.? Or what?
Bourth (X) Dec 31, 2008:
But what does it actually mean? Locally we have a "recycling centre" to which we take boot/trailer loads of stuff. We also have collection at our gates, but the collect goes to another place. Are they talking about one sort as opposed to the other?

non-recycled/unrecycled waste

Perhaps this would work. I have seen both terms used:

8 May 2007 ... The amount of non-recycled waste per person has decreased in the last three years and is now at the lowest level since estimates were first ...

The less unrecycled waste we have, the less demand there is for mechanical biological treatment, landfills or incinerators. Higher levels of reuse, ...

Note from asker:
this is very helpful - thank you very much

Thanks. Yes, I think the asker should check to be sure what they actually mean here.

waste collected at non-waste sites

Hello,

It means that waste products taken from non-waste sites. I suppose that would be waste collected at recycled "waste" sites. They are "non-waste" sites since they will not be "wasted."

I hope this helps.

household waste collection / flytipped waste

Hi,
As others have said, it depends if it's a regular offsite waste collection service or not. If it is, I'd say something like "household waste collection". If not, I would suggest "flytipped waste".
