Discussion

Thomas Johansson Feb 19, 2009:
... The interfaces mentioned define functions (or "sub-routines" in some terminologies) which the main process can use (or "call") in order to run processes available in the external applications.

An "uthopp" should be the main process using such a function. (Control will thereby switch temporarily to the external application, after which it will return to the main process.)

Peter's "jump" is the best proposal so far. "Exit" is ambiguous, as it is not a matter of definitely exiting a program in the usual sense of that word; "switch" also sounds misleading, since you are not definitely switching to another system or application. Possibly "temporary switch". But "jump" is probably better.

jump / pass control to

Having done a bit of computer programming myself in the past, I would say it is a jump to a sub-routine; in other words, control is passed from the main process to a sub-process or sub-routine. At the end of that, control returns to the main routine (which is why, in my view, it is not an exit or a switch).

switches/switching

Jag tycker att detta fungerar något bättre än exit, i alla fall om det första systemet fortfarande körs i bakgrunden.
