Serving plate

In BE platters can be serving dishes or a course of a meal served on the same plate - e.g. "seafood platter".

I'd suggest "serving plate" - i.e. larger than dinner plate but small enough to fit in a domestic dishwasher. If your dishwasher is larger - for hotels, etc, then serving plate would also be appropriate.

Sorry - if the dishwasher is larger for hotels, etc, then serving *platter* would be appropriate.

agree Nils Andersson : Yup. Of course, it is not limited to dinner, you CAN have lunch on it!

thank you Nils, that's why I included "plate for placing food", since like you said, you can have lunch or even breakfast on it.
neutral Kim Metzger : "plate for placing food" isn't idiomatic English. CL 5?

Thanks for pointing it out to me. Maybe my wording was not very good. But if I just entered "plate" there are people who are very picky about what one writes, and say that plate could mean a "disc plate" on a car or something.
disagree Nicole Schnell : German woman speaking: Sorry, you can't mix up Speiseplatte with Teller. CL 5?
