French term

convoyage

French to English Tech/Engineering Energy / Power Generation
I know this generally means 'vehicle transport' or something close, but I do not understand the context of the word here:

Les mesures seront bien sûr tout d’abord de type énergétique :

- Énergies primaires : électricité, gaz, fuel
- Énergies transformées, et leurs usages : échanges d’énergie thermique (eau chaude, eau glacée), distribution d’air comprimé, air conditionné, consommations de vapeur, éclairage, pompage, chauffage, 'convoyage'...

Thank you

Discussion

Bourth (X) Oct 23, 2009:
Conveying In the sense of conveyor belts, etc. is what, first off, this implies to me. But we need context; what precisely are the mesures referred to? Convoyage could, for instance, refer to belts or screw feeders conveying things like wood chips or pellets to an ecofriendly boiler, but without more background I can't actually see how that fits in ...
Linda Brunet (asker) Oct 23, 2009:
So sorry Chris and Chris - put the inverted commas in just as a way for the word to stand out. Otherwise Chris C. I have the same problem you have...may have to ask the client
chris collister Oct 23, 2009:
Overcomplicated? I can't make out whether this is referring purely to the energy required to "drive away" or to other ways of getting energy from A to B. But you have to wonder why the inverted commas are there...
Chris Hall Oct 23, 2009:
Further comment drive away = verb form
driveaway = noun form
Chris Hall Oct 23, 2009:
driveaway - correct spelling It is one word not two.
chris collister Oct 23, 2009:
drive away? Beware the inverted commas! A more general term might be "transported", since energy can be relocated either by transmitting it as electricity through wires (or occasionally microwaves), as gas through pipes or even as water under pressure. Also in the form of chemical potential as batteries or compressed hydrogen....

driveaway

As suggested by GDT and this fits within your context.

"Livraison d'un véhicule automobile que l'on conduit à sa destination, soit chez un acheteur, soit chez un concessionnaire, en utilisant la propre capacité du véhicule de se déplacer."

Also, there is the more literal translation of "conveying" but I think what I have suggested above is the more suitable term.

driveaway (noun)
1. the delivery of a car to a buyer or to a specified destination by means of a hired driver.
2. the action of moving forward in a vehicle from a stopped position: How many seconds from ignition to driveaway?
Note from asker:
I had seen that definition as well, maybe there is something I am missing, but given the rest of the items in the list, why wouldn't they just say something like fuel consumption?
Something went wrong...
