Hello,
This comes as a somewhat anti-climactic end of an Argentine poem in which it seems the character might go off with somebody new... but ends up with his 'enamorada de siempre.' Any ideas on how to put in English unclunkily? Everything with 'long-term' seems kind of messy; 'girlfriend' is not quite right; nor is 'lover' fit here... please send any suggestions/advice.
Many many thanks!

I don't know if this is suitable for what you're looking for,
but it might work well.

Bubo Coroman (X)
: actually "de siempre" refers to the past, "the one I've always had"; but this answer is great as it refers both to that, and to the future!

: I think this sounds fine. It's a shame we don't have more context, though.

Just a suggestion.
In case you don't know, it's defined by the New Oxford American Dictionary as:
a person ideally suited to another as a close friend or romantic partner.

his sempiternal love
Mi sugerencia.

the love of my life; lifelong love
...love of a lifetime
...my one true love
all suggest that this is to be the person's only great love throughout their life
the exact phrasing would depend on more context. It would be nice to know how it has to fit in to the rest of the text. As Phil says, the previous lines would be very helpful

Another suggestion -- This might fit well if the poem has a casual tone.

childhood sweetheart
just another option
this expression is more common than "long-time sweetheart" and "all-time sweetheart", although it's not necessarily better - it really depends on the context but I thought I'd suggest it

I like the word "unclunkily" by the way. It gets only four Google hits!
