French term

rupture de réflexion

French to English Science Mining & Minerals / Gems Gemstones
Consumer Protection legislation relating to labelling and sale of gemstones:
Is this a change in the refractive index? Something entirely different?
Any help welcomed

Discussion

Jack Dunwell (asker) Jun 1, 2010:
Thank you, K I had no idea that "Reflectance" existed. But here it is in Webster "the fraction of the total luminous flux incident upon a surface that is reflected and that varies according to the wave length distribution of the incident light-called also reflection coefficient, reflection factor"
kashew Jun 1, 2010:
Term cut short? Maybe one should look at it as "ruptures de réflexion visible" (maybe, "breaks in visible reflectance"?) as there's some examples of "Spectroscopie de réflexion visible".
Jack Dunwell (asker) Jun 1, 2010:
Hello Ann Thank you This is from an "Arrêté du 3 décembre 1987 relatif à l'information du consommateur sur les prix, Article 1, Article 8-1 et 8-2". I have the Consumer Code...all 114 pages...
Travelin Ann Jun 1, 2010:
@fourth Since this is a French decree, there probably already exists an "official" translation, but the online version of Legifrance I found does not correspond exactly to the V O. Maybe someone else has a better source.
