German term

Badeplausch

German to English Marketing Tourism & Travel Holiday packages
This refers to an "add-on" at the end of an organised tour eg. a fortnight spent touring a country followed by a couple of days "Badeplausch" on the coast. Simply "lazy days on the beach"? I'm sadly lacking inspiration :-(
Change log

Aug 24, 2010 06:17: Ulrike Kraemer changed "Level" from "Non-PRO" to "PRO"

Aug 26, 2010 07:29: Sarah Bessioud Created KOG entry

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (3): Johanna Timm, PhD, casper (X), Ulrike Kraemer

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

AllegroTrans Aug 23, 2010:
Even in UK I always think "bathing" is a rather outdated term anyway. "Sunbathing" "sunning" and even "beaching" are much more in usage.
Sarah Bessioud (asker) Aug 23, 2010:
Bathing I was also trying to avoid the word 'bathing' as some of the resorts offer a lot more than a quick dip in the water - diving, sailing and other general water sports. Hence the reason why I was thinking more along the lines of a coast/beach add-on after two weeks touring inland.
Lancashireman Aug 23, 2010:
Target readership? Americans are suspicious of ‘bathing’, presumably because they fail to recognise the verb ‘to bathe’ and think it is derived from ‘to bath’. They seem to prefer the translation ‘swimming’, even though this excludes people who just like to go in the water up to their waist.

Note from asker:
Thank you for your suggestion. I think a seaside sojourn sounds wonderful, the way it just rolls off the tongue. However, it sadly didn't seem to fit my text - hopefully it will fit another one some other day ;-)

agree casper (X) : The alliteration makes it (= "'add-on' at the end of an organised tour") sound kind of fun and exciting.
