agree  Charlesp: Yes, you are absolutely right - a daler is a "dollar". Would work in a literary context. However, if I went into a bank in Norway and asked for some “Government Dollars,” would they give them to me (or would they call somebody)?

agree  jeffrey engberg: I agree. It is not translated. Just as the "kroner", national currencies keep their original name. It was the official name of a currency unit for its time: see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swedish_riksdaler
