French term

prélevée

French to English Other Food & Drink Food production and sales
This is the full sentence

"Une marge sera prélevée sur les ventes afin de financer les activités de sensibilisation, formation et accompagnement mises en œuvre par xxxx."

The whole document is about a project by xxxx in Africa.

I believe the meaning, not the translation per se, of the sentence is that some portion of the sales will finance awareness outreach, training and the furthering of the project.

I am stumped about the use of prélevée here. The dictionary seems to give me the choice of deducted or levied. Part of my confusion is the use of marge which I posted as a separate quesion.

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): cc in nyc

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Stephanie Ezrol (asker) Sep 12, 2011:
Yesterday I asked 2 questions with short phrases and have so far received very little response. So today I decided to break my problem into two.

I think your question should have been "une marge sera prélevée" - you've effectively asked the same question twice.

Or, yes, deducted. A portion of sales will be set aside (or deducted) to finance blah blah blah.
