As the door is heavier, the aluminium extrusion needs to be stronger, hence thicker, 2.8mm It could be a different extrusion to normal, or an additional piece is put in where the hinges are and it is 'thickened up' I used to do this onsecurity boxes in Aluminium by welding an additional pad inside so that the screws could be longer and therefore more secure.

Discussion
I note that this is of course a glass door, but perhaps there is a bottom panel that is in sheet ali? It maybe ought to be 'glazed door'?
