kashew (asker) Oct 5, 2011:
Typo for tôle seems to be the explanation - thanks T!
Bashiqa Oct 5, 2011:
Without a doubt Tony. Nothing to do with mesh, it wouldn't strengthen the door very much.
Tony M Oct 5, 2011:
Typo? Surely this is just a typo for 'tôle' — the sheet-metal cladding of this door? It would be understandable if there was an original typo that a spell-checker had 'corrected' wrongly. For example, typing 'tile' instead of 'tôle' (I and O are adjacent keys) would suggest 'toile', among other choices.

I note that this is of course a glass door, but perhaps there is a bottom panel that is in sheet ali? It maybe ought to be 'glazed door'?

thickened section

As the door is heavier, the aluminium extrusion needs to be stronger, hence thicker, 2.8mm It could be a different extrusion to normal, or an additional piece is put in where the hinges are and it is 'thickened up' I used to do this onsecurity boxes in Aluminium by welding an additional pad inside so that the screws could be longer and therefore more secure.
Note from asker:
That should be it - thanks.

thick mesh

Heavy duty door with thick mesh (2.8mm). This is a mesh door in Alluminium
Note from asker:
Did you mean mesh inside the glass? Special security glass.
