I don't think titre is this context means title or headline. Is anyone familiar with titre being some form of modern slang in this context? And what would be the English equivalent?

I see nothing against, indeed lots for, the use of "title".
A couple of examples realting to Twitter :

"2009-03-08 - The Twitter Tweet Title appears differently depending on where you are viewing it. I'll be discussing one specific area that is of high value to all of us from a marketing perspective and that is the <title> that is displayed in your Tweets. Read more on Optimizing Twitter Titles..."

I don't tweet either. This old bird too scared of falling off her perch! ;-)

Note from asker:
Thanks alot. One of your links linked to the following: "As I scan (VERY quickly) down my list of Tweets to see what I want to click on, I may only see the first one or two words of each Tweet. If there’s a link there (even a shortened one), you’re wasting valuable real estate on a link that’s nowhere near as descriptive as a solid title (message) would be." which certainly seems to say that a title is a message -- since the total number of characters is 140 I think. I don't Tweet. So thanks again. |

Or could even be paragraphs if the character limit wasn't so low.
My suggestion actually comes from my native Russian which, in the times long gone, borrowed the same usage from French. So no, I don't think it's a modern slang, more likely an old one.

: It's obvious from the additional context provided by the asker in the discussion entries that this is not the case.

Pourquoi ?
Pourqu’il puisse être repris sur Twitter plus facilement.
Un titre court a le mérite d’être plus accrocheur qu’un titre long et complexe.
