French term

deux roues en sécurité

French to English Marketing Insurance motorcycle insuranc
Hi,

This is the title of my doc on insurance for motorcycles, I understand the meaning ;) but I'd like a catchier way of saying it

"Assurance motos: les deux roues en toute sécurité"
Both wheels .....

Thank you in advance

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (3): B D Finch, Kate Collyer, Yolanda Broad

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Nikki Scott-Despaigne Aug 7, 2012:
Writeaway is right. The "deux-roues" is in fact lacking the hyphen; it simply means a two-wheeled vehicle, motorbike, scooter etc.
Louisa Tchaicha (asker) Aug 7, 2012:
@Nikki thanks Nikki, yes good idea
Louisa Tchaicha (asker) Aug 7, 2012:
@writeaway thank you, I do know that it means motorcyle, but I thought that maybe I should put something about "two-wheels" since just before I have Motorcyle insurance: deux roues en toute sécurité
Nikki Scott-Despaigne Aug 7, 2012:
I agree with Writeaway. For translation purposes, you can run this into one, thus :
"Assurance moto en toute sécurité".
writeaway Aug 7, 2012:
les deux roues is colloquial French for motorcycles (or any two-wheel vehicles generally used in traffic/for transportation). not both wheels.

French term (edited): deux-roues en sécurité
Selected

ride safe, stay safe

Given the use of "motos" and then "deux-roues", which are synonyms (see discussion section), then running two into one :

"Motorbike insurance : ride safe, - stay safe". I wouldn't want to tempt the devil by advocating "play safe", but it's not far away. I don't think associating "play" and safety on motorbike is a good idea, although it is where the idea came from in my mind!

A search on Google with "deux-roues en toute sécurité" shows just how common the phrase is, "toute" being emphatic.

There are a number of possible solutions of course but the idea of translating "two-wheels" literally is not a good line to follow.

Two wheels with peace of mind

As this is insurance, it is probably more about security than safety. I.e. knowing that, if you end up with two broken legs and multiple other injuries, the insurance will ensure that you have a comfortable hospital bed and get your bike repaired or replaced.

Thanks kashew
neutral writeaway : or piece of mind if there's an accident. there is no peace of mind on a motorcycle. peace of mind for home insurance yes

It may be illusory, but they never say "Don't buy our insurance, just switch to four wheels instead."
