French term

débrouillardise

French to English Medical Medical: Dentistry
The following is from a report of clinical case studies where 3D imaging is recommended. This term seems to mean something like "making do" in this context but I am unsure. Any help appreciated.

"Si le panoramique dentaire reste un excellent moyen de « débrouillardise » il est clair que dans ce cas précis nous en avons atteint les limites et que seul un examen tridimensionnel qualitatif nous permet une investigation sûre."

make do

agree SafeTex : This fits in best 'a way to make do' and also has the right idea of what the word means in French (make do, get by etc)

not as 'familiar' as the original, but this may fit the bill?

I have the feeling it may be "débrouiller" in the sense of "disentangling", rather than "making do, improvising". It gives an overall picture, which may need to be completed by more precise examinations

Could be the meaning here, "removing the fog"
Peer comment(s):

neutral SJLD : this would seem to conflict with the rest of the statement "seul un examen tridimensionnel qualitatif nous permet une investigation sûre"
