English term

Fissirostral (birds)

English to French Science Zoology Birds
The expression is part of the following sentence: "and then there are (...) the little humming-birds, though they generally procure insects from the flowers, often take them on the wing, like any other fissirostral bird".

My problem is I have found two different definitions for "fissirostral birds" on the Internet:

1) This website (http://books.google.fr/books?id=_tUwAQAAMAAJ&pg=PA86&lpg=PA8... seems to suggest they refer simply to birds that catch their food on the wing.

2) Dictionary.com defines "fissirostral" as "having a broad, deeply cleft beak or bill, as the swallows and goatsuckers".

Incidentally the text also mentions swallows and goatsuckers, so we can be sure they too are "fissirostral".

Thank you experts!
