I am submitting this suggestion as an alternative to floor layer, not because I think floor layer is wrong , but because in this context it is a term which deals with all floor finishes, both those which are usually fitted like carpet and those which are laid like vinyl, linoleum etc. In that sense it might be more useful in this translation of a flooring trade fair. If you ask the individual, I think they would more likely say they are a floor layer/ carpet fitter.
