Not sure whether 'cotation' should be 'marking' or 'weighting' (if there are maybe a series of tests), or whether by putting 'marking' I am covering both options...

So it does! doesn't change the fact though that the concensus is it means marking /scoring/grading.... And if it's not a typo, in this case at least, the two are pretty synonymous. I would move on now!

not a typo wordref gives 'notation' as one (questionable?) translation of cotation, but the sample sentence confirms precisely its meaning of marking "cotation nf (notation) notation n

it's "notation" classic typo, "n" uses RH index finger, "c" uses LH index finger!
And so yes, it's "marking"

There is something about the sentence that suggests weighting, but maybe you could simply go with something like "the different ways they are marked" to slightly expand the "marking" concept....

Disagree with mchd I would think it is indeed "cotation" and that it is a question of weighting - or possibly just rating. Difficult to know which without more context.

When referring to the standardized predetermined set of criteria to evaluate a candidate's responses, the term "scoring" is used to the best of my knowledge.

Thanks, Chantal and other contributors. In my (European) context, the word 'marking' was the best fit, as I discovered from later parts of the translation. But the important thing for me was to understand whether it was just the marks attributed to qualifications and/or test results, or the weighting.

Yes, but in research papers and empirical studies, the term generally used is scoring, not marking, which has more of a connotation of grading school work.
