Italian term

Sfruttamento economico

Italian to English Law/Patents Law: Contract(s) design, industry
Hi all, I'd like to ask you how you would translate the term "sfruttamento economico" inside a contract between a designer and a company regarding a design contest where it is stated that,

"...per tutti i progetti non selezionati come progetti vincitori, è prevista una License fee decisa dal clienti pari ad euro 2000 per l'acquisto della licenza esclusiva per lo sfruttamento economico degli stessi...".

is "economic exploitation" correct? What would you suggest?

Thanks a lot for your precious help,

tc

Can you post a bit more of what comes after? The sequence to this makes a lot of difference

"the client has agreed to pay a license fee of € 2000 in exchange for the exclusive right to make economic use of all projects not selected as winners"

my suggested translation of the whole phrase took 1 minute. More work, relating it to the wider context, could probably improve it.

economic exploitation

I think your translation is correct
Peer comment(s):

disagree Tom in London : "exploitation" has negative connotations in English, and this is not intended in the Italian.

agree philgoddard : I don't agree with Tom's comment. It can have negative connotations, but it doesn't here. You could also say "commercial exploitation".

beneficial enjoyment

Yes, depends on the purport of the right. However, economic in ES (economic proprietor = beneficial owner), FR (economy = structure of a contract) and DE (wirtschaftlich = practical tenor of the contract parties' intention) is more often than not a trap and a false friend of economic or economy.
