French term

oeuvres en volume

French to English Art/Literary Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting Report on urban and street art
About an exhibition by the artist Lokiss. Context: "Il signe l’exposition Instant 14, montrant ses œuvres en volume à la nervosité agressive, à la Percept Gallery de Lyon." I asked what the author meant by "nervosité agressive", and the answer was: "Quel est le sens ici ? ce sont des qualificatifs qualifiant le caractère d’un humain, qui ici, sont assimilés à un travail artistique. Agressively nervous pourrait convenir par exemple". I am not sure what he means by "en volume", though, because the exhibition only had 20 exhibits and they do not seem to be very large pieces. Any help gratefully received!

Thanks for the references, Sheri P. and Duncan If you Google "pièces en volume", or do Google Images, it clearly does mean three dimensional. Funny, I've been translating art for donkey's years and I don't remember seeing this term before.
Sheri P Sep 3, 2014:
I think Phil is right: three-dimensional À son ouverture en 1985, le Musée Picasso présente un ensemble exceptionnel de sculptures, de céramiques et d’objets, restés longtemps inaccessibles dans les divers ateliers de Picasso. **Environ 250 œuvres en trois dimensions composent la collection la plus complète de pièces en volume de l’artiste,** dont de nombreuses pièces rares comme les tableaux-reliefs et les constructions cubistes.

Were not the 20 exhibits all by Lokiss? See http://www.linternaute.com/agenda/evenement/442731/expositio...

Could it mean three-dimensional? It looks like they're conceptual works.
Nervosité means nervous energy.

large body of work

As in:
In this show of “Recent Works”, the MAK presents a comprehensive solo exhibition of the British artist Julian Opie. The three large bodies of work assembled in the show, “Portraits”, “Nudes”, and “Land-scapes”, survey most recent works by the artist, many of them never shown before. The works of this boundary-pushing artist who always strives to find innovative ways of artistic expression oscillate between painting and sculpture, expanding techniques and readings of art.

Or it could be "his large-scale work"?
Peer comment(s):

neutral Sheri P : I think Phil's original suggestion in the DBox (three-dimensional) is probably closer to the meaning. See my ref there.
