Add-on: what is important IMO here is that the parties agree that changes/amendments can be validly made without having to use any of the (legal/statutory) forms described in German law that are required for other contracts, i.e. real estate deals.
The freedom of form for many contracts applies in Germany and is one of four other subcategories of the German freedom of contract. I believe that here the "freedom of form" applies and that this is a specific term that IMO is not really exactly described by the word "informal" or, for that matter, by stating "in any form."
