Japanese term

投入動作

Japanese to English Law/Patents Patents Puffer type gas circuit breaker
The sentence in this case goes as follows

投入動作時における前期固定接触子との接触圧が増大し、円滑な投入動作が困難になる。

I have been translating "投入動作" as operation in turn-on state. But I doubt if it has some other meaning.

Can anyone help me in this case?

Early help is requested.

Proposed translations

the turning-on operation

I think 投入動作 refers to the actual operation of the turning-on (as in 投入動作時) rather than some other operation during the power is on. Does this make any sense to you?

BTW 前期 seems to be a typo for 前記.

Suggested translation:
An increased contact pressure on the above-mentioned fixed contact makes the smooth turning-on operation difficult.

puffing gas

Since it's about a puffer type gas circuit breaker, it might mean puffing gas, assuming what is 投入 is gas.

agree Nathan Hamel : It is hard to know for sure without more context, but 投入動作 does seem to refer to closing the circuit in this case.

Thanks a lot!
neutral Marc Brunet : good function oriented thinking, but using "closing" in a circuit context may confuse, since 'closing a switch contact' turns the power ON not OFF... IMHO
