Discussion

Frogologue Aug 12, 2016:
@Didier I don't think I'm disagreeing with your answers, just pointing to what a nappe may look like, in other words a lattice of piping, presumably the one supplying the sprinkler heads on whatever level(s)
Didier Fourcot Aug 12, 2016:
@Frogo Look at the references of my answer: horizontal layers of pipes and sprinklers for high buildings where a single layer at the roof cannot fight fire from ground to ceiling
Tony M Aug 11, 2016:
@ Frogo I have come across a similar usage in aeronautics, referring to a network of (in that case) hydraulic pipes.
Frogologue Aug 11, 2016:
The impression I get corresponds to the images in http://www.spiebatignolles.fr/files/flash/brochure/plaquette... where a nappe would be a lattice or meshwork of pipes. See also "nappe" in http://www.lomag-man.org/sprinkler_infos/sprinkler_infossyst... or the red images in http://qecpak.com/firefightingsystems.html
Howard Sugar Aug 11, 2016:
I remember that a "nappe" in a sprinkler system means a "sheet of water". They often mention "première nappe" and "seconde nappe" being triggered. (you might think of a layer of water being triggered.
Nikki Scott-Despaigne Aug 11, 2016:
Indeed. I suppose Lucy had already considered something along the lines of what I had thought, and ruled it out as it isn't really a logical fit in the list.
chris collister Aug 11, 2016:
I'm with Tony on this one, though it's not clear whether the "nappe" is the area to be covered, or the area which the water actually covers (though they ought to be the same)
Tony M Aug 11, 2016:
@ Nikki I have grave doubts about that, it doesn't quite seem to fit with the rest of the items being discussed.
I have a feeling it refers to the 'coverage pattern' of the sprinklers; I translated a very large project about this subject area once, but haven't got time right now to go and consult the archives...
Nikki Scott-Despaigne Aug 11, 2016:
nappe alluviale? I suppose in context, they need to consider the technical availability (proximity, accessibility) of a "nappe alluviale.

Par déduction je suppose qu'il s'agit de système d'extinction pour stockage en grande hauteur.
Indices: racks et racks adossés, plus ce document mentionnant les nappes de sprinklers dans ce cas:
http://www.ineris.fr/badoris/Pdf/substances_combustibles_en_...

Where sprinklers are located adjacent to the obstruction, they shall be of the intermediate level rack type.
