Italian term
marasca spiritata
Italian to English
Other
Wine / Oenology / Viticulture
Occurs in the description of Chianti Classico. Also referred to as ciliegia spiritata.
One example of how it appears in a sentence:
La marasca spiritata, i frutti rossi polposi e maturi si integrano a delicate sfumature terziarie.
A google search for spirited cherry brings up pages related to Sourz cherry liqueur!
Would lively notes of cherry be sufficient or am I missing something here?
Thanks for your help.

: I think you're right, actually, though I might use "lively" as the adj. - http://www.bathchronicle.co.uk/wine-expert-angela-mount-sele...

Thanks, Rachel. Yes, lively would also do. / Have now hit on "macerated cherry", which covers all options.

Marasca sour Cherry preserved in spirit/alcohol
I think here spiritata refers to the fact that marasche are usually preserved in spirit, ie: grappa, pure alcohol, vodka. They are not usually estensione fresh due to their very bitter taste.

Boozy Marasca or sour cherry notes could work but only with a very informal register

Note from asker:
Along those lines then, what do you think of boozy cherry notes? |
Difficult to award points on this one as I think your interpretation was correct, but the solution I liked best was the term proposed by Wendy. Many thanks for your input Lisa Jane, much appreciated. |
