Does this mean "the next day" (eg Tuesday) or "for the next day" (for the next 24 hours) or can it mean either?
Thanks!

the next day
The precise meaning must come from the context. The normal understanding would be to take it easy on the day the advice is given, and the next day as well. It would be wrong to apply a literal understanding (24 hours from time of advice), for then to start pumping iron or running marathons.
