neutral Victoria Britten : I think it would be safer to say "with butter sauce and separated eggs". // "... a separated egg", then. Though nothing says it isn't a preparation, as in writeaway's Marmiton link (in which the preparation includes butter, just to complicate matters).

Maybe, but there is a difference between "with separated egg" and "with a separated egg", the former could be a contraction of "with a separated egg preparation" and hence involve more than one egg!
