Como traduzir num artigo acadêmico quadro 1, 2,3? Em português tabelas e quadros ambos são elementos de texto com nomes distintos. Em inglês chamaria os dois de table? Nesse texto o que o autor chamou de tabelas normalmente apresentam os resultados em números de cada classificação e os quadros apresentam as tipologias de cada governo pesquisado, por exemplo.


"Na tabela 1 estão os resultados da pesquisa e no quadro 1 detalha-se a tipologia utilizada"

If I haven't made it clear... A "quadro" is a table, as is "tabela". They are synonymous and should be translated as a single word. A chart is a "gráfico". This is the terminology followed in international organizations.

I still don't agree 'Chart' is usually not a separate category. In English, we call a chart a 'figure'. A chart is generated by software like Excel. I realize that they are separate categories in Portuguese, but in English we subsume them into one. This is true for scientific literature in English. Before being a translator, I was a scientific editor.

Muriel, Yes, I agree with you but in this particular case Asker needs to make a distinction and therefore use two different words, hence my suggestion for chart.

It's a table! I checked more than a dozen references online, clicking on the reference to see the "quadro" being referred to in the text, and in all cases, no exceptions, they were tables.

In the work I do, "quadro" is always a table. 'Table' can also be "tabela". Charts and figures are "gráficos" or "figuras". In the end, it will depend on the publisher of the journal or book.

If I haven't made it clear, "quadro" and "tabela" are synonymous in Portuguese. You need to use just one translation - 'table' - for both. "Quadro" does **not** mean a chart, which is "gráfica" in Portuguese.
