Pôle d'équilibre territorial et rural

French to English Other Government / Politics organisation of communities
Texts regarding local figures who have been prominent in their "PETR", "Pôle d'équilibre territorial et rural". I have a definition of this organisation: "En France, un pôle d’équilibre territorial et rural (PETR) est un établissement public regroupant plusieurs établissements publics de coopération intercommunale à fiscalité propre associés dans un périmètre territorial non enclavé sous la forme d’un syndicat mixte. Sa création, en janvier 2014, est envisagée comme le pendant du dispositif de pôle métropolitain, dans le sens où il permet la coopération entre des territoires ruraux et des petites et moyennes villes." I just wondered if anyone had come across a definition in English? Any help gratefully received.

PETR (Pole of Rural and Territorial Balance)

I only found it translated once though am busy with my own stuff right now so don't have time to search further.

Normally I'd keep this in French with just a fairly literal translation in brackets since there does not seem to be an official translation, no, not even in Wikipedia https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pôle_d'équilibre_territorial_e...

But see page 6 here

The PETR (Pole of Rural and Territorial Balance)

I'd be more inclined to use HUB, rather than "Pole" and equilibrium for balance

Territorial and Rural Balance Cluster

I worked on website texts for a PETR and this is how I translated it, after consultation with the client.
https://www.petr-uzege-pontdugard.fr/index.php/en/le-syndica...

But I think you can go with what you like the sound of and feel gets the idea across, keeping in mind that the concept is specific to France and doesn't have an equivalent. I'd use the French (acronym plus full name) with the translation in brackets the first time it appears, then just PETR afterwards. Hope this helps!

rural communities cooperation council

I don't think a more literal translation serves any purpose, since it leaves the reader none the wiser.

I don't think you should ever translate "pôle" as "pole" in this context, and "balance" doesn't work either, in my opinion.

agree Ben Gaia : Yes, plain English is better, none of the others means anything whatsoever in English.
