Glossary entry (derived from question below)
French term or phrase:
il y a souvent plusieurs vies dans une vie
English translation:
we can choose from many different paths throughout our lives
French term
il y a souvent plusieurs vies dans une vie
Sentence reads:
"Comme il y a souvent plusieurs vies dans une vie, j’ai choisi de consacrer mon temps à décorer votre intérieur en vous proposant de magnifiques tableaux photo modernesà des tarifs très attractifs. "
I cannot figure out what it means, I have considered "we live through various stages in our lives", or "we see many people's lives cross our own", but I don't think either of these is precisely what is meant.
So I would appreciate comments and ideas. I would like something concise and succinct to blend into the rest of the designer's content.
Thank you.

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.
How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:
An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)
A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).
Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.
When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.
* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.
Proposed translations
we may take many different paths throughout our lives
As one life is often made up of many lives combined
Like I said, just throwing it out there!
You might need to go back to the client and ask for clarification!
THe problem is I don't get the connection between many lives and how he spends his life decorating for people. |
There may be many lives within a lifetime

Or "many different lives".
One life may often hold several lives
:)
The problem is I think this sounds odd as an introduction to the rest of the sentence, as there is no connection anywhere else about his career etc. |
This is why I am checking if this is a common expression or not? |
Discussion
I actually altered the chosen answer to "we can choose from many different paths throughout our lives".
Plusieurs vies dans une vie
"15 ans dans la finance, puis la création de bijoux et la littérature"

There is a key phrase in your text, maybe they are referring to this: "Après des études commerciales à Grenoble, j'ai décidé de consacrer mon temps libre à ma passion : la photographie"

"Il y a plusieurs vies dans une vie, et c’est bien cela qui nous la rend attrayante. » Maryse Wolinski, Chambre à part."

not really anyone's "thing" or some special expression, just one quote ... Most likely about this photographer's own life, not the life of potential clients.
Meaning "this is the thing I want to be doing now"?
Anyway, I have just sent message to client on this.
