Dutch term

verzilver uw dak

FVA Dutch to English Marketing Energy / Power Generation solar energy
https://www.gelderland.nl/verzilveruwdak

It is the name of an initiative to stimulate the installation of solar panels on rooftops. Any good ideas on how to translate "verzilver"?

Thank you!

I also like it with "pay its way", thanks!

I just found Make your roof pay its way on https://www.bmigroup.com/innovation/environmental-sustainabi... which is more 'fun'.
agree Catriona C. : Especially with your addition of 'pay it's way'

Make your roof pay for itself

I don't think the term is meant to be understood literally. They're not telling you to silver plate your roof. The idea is that using solar energy is meant to not only save you money but earn you money in the long term.

Different context but similarities.

monetise your roof

http://nl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/verzilveren

I think there's a play on words here, since as well as making you money, solar panels turn your roof silver. You probably have to lose this in the translation, though someone may prove me wrong!

PS: Please don't use the "first validated answer" mode. This often means that someone gives a correct answer, but doesn't get any thanks or points.
Note from asker:
Hadn't thought of that! Thanks for the heads-up :-)
Peer comment(s):

agree giovanni_v : I was thinking along these lines too. The scheme is for businesses so I think 'monetise' sets the right tone.

agree Kitty Brussaard : Or in this specific context (commercial & industrial rather than residential roofs): monetise your roof space. See f.i. http://together.solar/urban-solar/ and https://quicklinestorage.co.uk/solar-panels/.

exploit your roof for economic benefit

Alternative: exploit your roof for an economic benefit.
Explanation: "Exploit" is the type of term that a businessperson or accountant might elect. I am not saying it is more idiomatic than "monetise", just that it may sound more apt to some people.
---
(Hundreds of thousands of Google hits for search: exploit "for economic benefit".) Example:
Data Cash Systems, Inc. V. JS & A Group, Inc
books.google.com › books
... the number of copies distributed is irrelevant.2/ And if the communication is limited, whether the communication is exploited for economic benefit is irrelevant.
