French term

futaie régulière claire

French to English Other Forestry / Wood / Timber futaie régulière claire
Hello,

I need to work out what this means in the context of forestry. Futaie is plantation of trees, and I think régulière means mixed-age(?) What does claire mean here?

Thank you in advance.

Thank you, everyone. I believe that the term has to do with the age (even, as opposed to uneven) of the forest and the fact that it is clear.
Gabrielle Leyden Jul 21, 2023:
futaie régulière In case this helps: futaie régulière = regular high forest = Futaie équienne constituée d'arbres de dimensions voisines (Dictionnaire de la forestrie/Dictionary of Forestry, Ordre des ingénieurs forestiers du Québec
Tony M Jul 20, 2023:
@ Asker 'futaie' is specifically a plantation of trees being grown for a specific purpose (e.g. ships' masts) — so they are grown to be as tall and straight as possible, with minimal branches. This is usually typically achieved by growing them closer together than usual.
Emmanuella Jul 20, 2023:
Claire se réfère à la surface terriere comprise entre 10-20 m2/ha.

open plantation of even-aged trees

A suggestion.
‘Open forest’ as opposed to ‘dense forest’ in which trees grow closely to one another.
‘Plantation of even-aged trees’ : futaie régulière

L'objec

In the treatment of a regular high forest, the trees are educated in a stand of the same age and of similar dimensions.

Thank you, Andrzej. I agree that this has to do with the age (even, as opposed to uneven) of the forest and the fact that it is clear.
