This is the last sentence in a doc about the French elections. I would like to know if it is at all possible to translate it as "we haven't heard the last of X in the French elections", or if a more literal translation is necessary/correct. X is a political party.

"les échéances électorales" is a standard phrase in France referring generally to any and all elections to held in the future in line with French constitutional law - hence no need to be more specific that "future elections" (or something similar) - no specific elections are alluded to here.
