Either may be used
if you look into google, the first has some 22,000 and the second 37,000 hits. So for me, it would be a matter of what sounded better in the text....

I agree with David, but I would prefer Transcaucasus, because "Caucasus" is more correct than "Caucasia". You can say "Caucasian", but geographic name of the place is "Caucasus".

Transcaucasus or South Caucasus
Transcaucasia seems to be a political term. Transcaucasus/South Caucasus seems to be the geographical term.
References:
1. The southern section of the Caucasus is known as the Transcaucasus.
(thefreedictionary.com)
2. The region south to the Great Caucasus Mountain Range comprising the States of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan should be called "South Caucasus", instead of "Transcaucasia", "Transcaucasus" currently in use in Western languages.

: Agree 'S.Caucasia'/'the S.Caucasus' (the two English names I prefer)There is overwhelming evidence to show that Transcaucasia/theTranscaucasus both used geographically by respectable English writers-"appropriateness"objections are against both"trans"names

: You are absolutely right: "Transcaucasia seems to be a political term. Transcaucasus/South Caucasus seems to be the geographical term". I didn't want to discuss political problems here, because there isn't right place for it :))))
