Si dirà che quello di Beslan è un episodio estremo, ma l’apocalisse culturale di cui parlava Ernesto De Martino, riferendosi all’impossibilità di riconoscersi in ciò che era abituale, si ripropone oggi a proposito del mondo conosciuto anche in quelle terre. è una “modernità in polvere”, per dirla con un altro antropologo, Arjum Appadurai. Una modernità cioè che si propone come spazio pubblico di alcune diaspore: quella del terrore, quella della disperazione, ma anche la diaspora della speranza.

Diasporas isn't going to work in this context - so I suggest a using a verb instead. I find I often need to be a bit creative when translating this sort of thing - English doesn't lend itself to such abstractions as well as Italian does.
How about:
A modernity, that is, which presents itself as the public arena in which many emotions are conveyed, including terror and despair, but also hope.

I\'m not an anthropologist - maybe they say this sort of thing... In which case, given Neva\'s useful link, I\'d suggest \"A modernity, that is, which presents itself as a diasporic public space where terror and despair, and also hope, are found.\" These are only suggestions - and you\'ll have to decide how much anthropological jargon to include in a journalistic text, depending on where it\'ll be published.
How about:
A modernity, that is, which presents itself as the public arena in which many emotions are conveyed, including terror and despair, but also hope.
