Yes, Siobhan, I think you are exactly right on this. Could you submit as answer so I can grade?
Thanks!
Based on Harry's suggestion... break-off tabs, perhaps?? See the following link for reference http://www.ami.ac.uk/courses/topics/0254_padep/index.html#2

Harry, that actually sounds as though it might fit. I think I will have to go back to the client for some additional information here at any rate. Thank you both in the meantime..
Harry Borsje Oct 22, 2009:
Sounds like... some sort of groove or 'perforation' along which smaller PCBs can be broken off a larger piece, e.g. after surface mounting of components.
Mary McCusker (asker) Oct 22, 2009:
I'm positive that it relates to PCBs. This is from a list of PCB data. The entire text is about PCA - printed circuit assembly. Packaging is not addressed in this section. It may simply mean edges here, however.
Textpertise Oct 22, 2009:
How certain are you that it relates to PCBs? The meaning of breekrand that I am thinking of is a sharp cutting edge, such as would be used in a tape dispenser or similar against which you pull something to cut it. There is a similar word "breukrand" which means the edge of a fracture - often used of tiles which have been cut with a nice, clean and straight "breukrand". Neither of these applies to PCBs. It could apply to packaging, for example, which has an edge that facilitates breaking the pack open. Or an ampule which is broken open and leave a sharp edge along the break line. Any other clues you can offer?
